Kiehl’s First Impressions

Recently I’ve been really trying to review my skin care routine, and almost go back to basics. As I may have mentioned in previous posts, my skin is ridiculously sensitive. I suffer from the occasional flare up of facial eczema, so I really need to watch what skin care products I use. I stick to my usual prescribed moisturiser, which is a very bland emollient which has worked for my skin for the last six years or so, however in the last few months I found my skin just wasn’t looking it’s best at all. I found it began to look dull, flaky and tired, and I finally came to the point where I knew I needed to do something about it.  I wanted to get into a good skin care routine, you know, the usual cleanse, tone and moisturise… But I first needed to find the products for it.

After lots of searching online and asking friends I decided to look into Kiehl’s for skin care. I carefully read reviews on other blogs and thought that I would give it a go. I was quite hesitant at first, as they are on the more pricey side, and I’ve never really invested in skin care products in the past, especially high-end brands. I decided to take the plunge and order a few products from their website directly. I went for an eye cream, as I always found my eyes are the driest area of my face, and I suppose it’s never too early to start anti-acing skincare, right?

I ordered the Keihl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. All of the reviews said that it was the kindest eye cream for sensitive skin. After using this product for the last 2 months I can safely say that it 100% agrees with my sensitive skin. It does exactly what it says it does; moisturises your delicate eye area. It contains Shea Butter, Avocado Oil and Beta-Carotene.  With all the recent hype over avocados I’ll fully admit I’m not a fan when it comes to eating them, however I really love the effect it has when used in this product. Keihl’s says that Avocado Oil is a rich, fatty-acid emollient, which is known to be the most moisturising of any fruit oil. It has a natural source of Amino Acid proteins, Vitamins A, D, E, and potassium. Helps to restore the natural moisture of the skin.

I ordered the 14ml pot for £22.50. Although this is such a tiny size of pot, you only need a small amount of product each time, so it will last a while.

The great thing about ordering directly from the Keihl’s website is that you are able to choose two samples of their products to try. I decided to go for the Creme de Corps Body Lotion, and the Daily Reviving Concentrate. I really did love using these products, however I found the Creme de Corps lotion to be quite greasy. I felt that I needed to use the Daily Reviving Concentrate for a bit longer to get the most from the product.

The next product I bought has become my most favourite part of my skin care routine. It is the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I only use this facial oil after cleansing my skins in the evenings before bed, and I found it actually helps me relax and unwind in the evenings, thanks to it’s gorgeous scent. The oil contains Squalane (which helps to restore skins moisture), Evening Primrose Oil and Lavender Essential Oil.

I bought the 30ml bottle for £30. Yes, I do believe this is a bit pricey, however the majority of Keihl’s products are, but I would definitely say that this product in particular is worth it’s price tag. I’m amazed by how it transformed the look and the feel of my skin overnight. I wake up with hydrated, smooth skin which I have been lusting for.

After using these Keihl’s products I will definitely being re-purchasing the Creamy Eye Treatment and the Midnight Recovery Oil. I am very happy that I decided to take the chance to buy them and it paid off.

Updated Skin Care Routine

Over the last year or so my skin has been, lets put it nicely, a bit unpredictable! Suffering from eczema and dermatitis on my face for so long was tough, which resulted in severe dry patches that no moisturiser seemed to even touch, and blotchy red patches which could flare up at any point.

After trial and error with pretty much any product under the sun, I think I’ve finally found the perfect routine for my skin, which helps keep my eczema at bay and my skin as hydrated as possible!

My routine is pretty much the same for morning & night, however in the evenings I’ll always start by taking my makeup off, either with a makeup wipe if I’m feeling lazy (I adore the Nivea Cleansing Wipes for sensitive skin) or the Makeup Eraser cloth.

I’ll then lather a generous amount of my good old favourite Noxema Cleansing Cream onto my face, I love the smell of this product and it really deep cleans my skin without drying it out.

For the last few months I’ve been using the Foreo Luna Mini, I find it really brings out the best in my cleanser. I feel it gives my face a really good massage and tightens my pores. I wet the Luna Mini under some warm water and use it to gently massage the Noxema Cleanser into my skin. I’ll then rinse my face and pat it dry.

After cleanser, I’ll go in with the Pixi Glow Tonic– yes I know, every bloggers holy grail product- but seriously, this stuff has changed my skin! It definitely brings out a glow in my face and sorts out any pesky dry flaky patches that I always get on my cheeks in the Winter. I’ll put a generous amount on a cotton wool pad and smooth it over my face, then let it dry before moving on to my favourite part, moisturising!

Next up I put a few drops of the Pixi Skin Treats Rose Oil Blend, this oil not only smells amazing, but it feels gorgeous when applied to your skin. I feel it adds just a little bit extra oomph to my skin care routine. After massaging in the face oil I’ll go in with some Epaderm Cream, this is a plain moisturiser which I have used for my eczema for years. I couldn’t imagine using anything else.

USA Haul – Beauty Bits

Ah, America, home of outlet malls and amazing brands you can only dream of getting in the UK! I couldn’t resist splurging on a few things while I was holiday in Orlando, and I couldn’t resist even more sharing them all with you.

First stop was Sephora (surprise, surprise!) and I actually took two trips there. I stocked up on a few essentials, like their skin care line, their own brand makeup brushes and beauty tools, and a few high end goodies.

Sephora have a huge selection of makeup brushes, I was in awe when trying to pick the ones I wanted. Eventually I ended up with the ‘Sephora Pro Blending Brush Large 27’ and the ‘Sephora Crease Shadow Brush 73’. I also picked up a Beauty Blender. Although I’m a devotee to my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, I’ve heard good things about the Beauty Blender so I thought I’d give it a try seeing as it was a little bit cheaper in the US.

DSCN0279

I recently hit pan on my NARS Laguna Bronzer, and when I went to re-stock, so I decided to buy the NARS Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm and Laguna for the best of both. Sephora has the worst thing for when your queuing… the sample sized section! I threw the Benefit Roller Lash and the Origins Clear Improvements Active Charcoal Mask into my basket at the last moment. They are both really great products that I’d love to buy again in full size.

I wanted to invest in a new eyeshadow palette. I picked up the Tarte 2 In Bloom.. Which actually smells delicious! This is the first (of many) Tarte products I’ve tried and I’m falling in love with the brand. The neutral palette has a mix of matte and shimmer shades, and is part of their Amazonian Clay Range. My favourite colours have to be Smarty Pants, Rocker, and Funny Girl.

This next product I totally didn’t just buy it for it’s name… The BECCA ‘Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured’ in ‘Moonstone’. It is a super compact cream highlighter that blend so smoothly into your skin. It is quite subtle, but you can layer it up for a more intense effect. It’s quickly become part of my everyday makeup.

What are your Sephora favs? And what should I definitely pick up next time I’m across the pond?

April Favourites

Hello everyone! I’m sorry this post is a little bit late… But here it is!

April was a busy month for me. It started off quiet and chilled as I was on a family holiday, but by the time I got back I had started working full time, which I know the majority of people do, but I am shattered! 😅 So I was definitely in need of the Monday bank holiday!

Now on to what I’ve been loving this month…

Adidas Los Angeles Grey Trainers

These little beauties were on my ASOS wish list for a while, and when I saw that they were on sale, I had to pop them into my shopping basket. They’re unbelievably comfy and go with lots of outfits.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

I wanted to try NYX products for a while. I believe they now stock their products in Boots, however I ordered a selection from ASOS. I got two of their Lip Cremes, in the shades Athens and Milan.

I find it leaves a gorgeous matte finish, that lists for ages! But I always make sure to moisturise my lips with my fave lip balm (Carmex) before application!

Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair – Lush Shower Gel

I’ll be honest, the name of this product may have influenced my decision to buy it just slightly 🎤… It’s a song from one of my favourite musicals, South Pacific! It smells very fresh and leaves you feeling super clean.

Sephora Vitamin C Booster Serum

As mentioned in my Prague Sephora Haul… I’ve been using this almost every morning. I just pop two to three drops into my palms and massage into my face. I find it leaves my skin dewy and glowing.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm First Impression

Today I thought I’d write about what I thought about using the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleaning Balm for the first time.

Instead of going out and splurging a pretty £40 for the full size tub, I decided to order myself a 20g ‘travel’ sized pot (£9 from ASOS), to see if it worked well with me. The small size didn’t come with a flannel cloth that the full size includes, so I thought I would just use one of my own.

I’ve read lots of reviews on the balm, and one thing that is a bit of a love/hate is the scent of the product. I find it a bit difficult to describe, but I really like it!

The texture of the balm is very thick and creamy. It melts onto your skin and feels so luxurious.

I would use this product as a second cleanser after removing all my makeup (especially eye makeup- this balm doesn’t do the best job at removing that).

After using the balm my skin felt plumped, clean, pampered and very smooth.

I may or may not change my mind on this cleanser, but at the moment I think I’ll enjoy using it as part of my everyday routine!

Have you tried this cleansing balm? Please let me know what you think of it!

Sephora Haul

While I was in Prague I managed to squeeze in a trip to the beauty haven that is Sephora 🙌

As most of you know we don’t have Sephora in the UK, so whenever I’m in Canada or on a city break somewhere in Europe I need to scout one out.

I mainly go to pick up the makeup brands that you can’t buy directly in the UK (without the huge shipping fees) as well as Sephora’s own makeup and skincare line. I’m a huge lover of their fibre masks and blushes! ✨

For those of you who have been to Prague, I went to the Sephora store in the Palladium Shopping Centre in the City Centre. I was pretty lucky as they were having a 3 for 2 deal event at the time! (Who doesn’t want to save money?)

Here is what I picked up:

Makeup

Sephora Collection Rouge Balm SPF 20

Sephora Brilliant Jumbo Cheeks + Lips in Vintage Pink

Sephora Smoothing and brightening powder in Colourless

Sephora Collection Colourful 5 Eyeshadow Palette in Nude to Neutral

Sephora Colourful Face Powders – Blush in 02 So Shy

Sephora Sharpener (very handy to have!)

February Favourites

Hello everyone! Welcome to the post where I write about all the best bits I’ve been loving the past month. It definitely has been a quick month (well.. it is February!) it honestly seems like yesterday I was sitting writing out my January favourites!

Let me know what you’ve been loving this month! X

img_0244

Garnier Toner – I’ve been doing a lot of research on skin care recently, and one thing that became apparent to me was that you need to have a good skin care routine. I’ve already been cleansing and moisturising my skin, but one step I’ve never really thought about was using a toner. Apparently toners have a huge range of benefits such as tightening pores. I picked this one up from Super Drug (it was on offer!) and I didn’t want to spend loads on something I’d be trying out. So far I’m really enjoying using this morning and night and I’ve noticed a difference in the texture of my skin.

img_0249

Nivea Dry Skin Face Wipes – I know face wipes aren’t the No. 1 skin care product to use, but after a long day all I want is a quick fix to remove my makeup and make my face feel a bit fresher. I feel like it’s actually worth investing a wee bit more in a good face wipe, and these Nivea ones don’t disappoint. I feel that my face looks brighter and heathier after using these.

img_0252

Boots Soltan Instant Tan – I still use the old and trusty St Moriz Fake Tan but I’ve been loving trying something different, yet still very affordable. This tan smells lovely, and my skin feels very soft afterwards and I find that it’s very build able to get the colour you want.

img_0248

Soap and Glory ‘Endless Glove’ Moisture Mask & Hand Cream – I don’t know about you guys but I looove Soap & Glory products. I was a huge fan of the ‘Hand Food’ cream yet this month I’ve been using the ‘Endless Glove’ a lot more. It has a very fresh scent to it, so it isn’t as sweet like their other products, which is quite nice for a hand cream. I find it sinks into the skin very quickly and works wonders on my nails as well! 😀 I’m yet to use it as a mask overnight, so I will let you guys know how it works!

img_0250

Witch Stick – An old favourite that I rediscovered. I used this all the time in my teen years, and I swore by it! Luckily I my skin isn’t very spot prone, but when the odd one pops up on my face I dap it on and it disappears within a day or two. I picked this one up as they donate proceeds to Marie Curie Cancer Care- a cause close to my heart.

img_0247

Once Upon a Time – I’ve mentioned this in my previous post ‘ Netflix Top 5 ‘ and it is definitely one of my favourite series’. This month I had a serious binge watching marathon of the show and unfortunately that’s me finished the last season until the next one is released.

Benefit Beauty Bar Experience!

Hello everyone!

Today I was in Edinburgh City Centre to do a bit of shopping after finishing work a bit earlier than usual. I nipped in to Boots on Princes Street to get a few essentials (you know, face wipes, razors and all that jazz). A lovely lady from the Benefit Stand  came up to me and asked if I’d like to try out some of their products. I’m not usually one to go up to beauty counters and ask the sales assistants about products, but I’ve used a variety of Benefit products before and I love them! So I thought it would be a great experience to try some new products and get some hints and tips from the professionals!

First of all they cleansed my face with the ‘Remove It- Makeup Remover’ to clean any makeup on my face for a blank canvas 😉 She then applied the ‘Total Moisture Facial Cream’ this felt amazing on my skin! The product has a light scent to it, and it feels very cooling when applied to the skin.

She then applied the new ‘POREfessional: matte rescue gel’ as a primer, followed by the ‘Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Brightening Makeup’ in the shade ‘Believe in me- Ivory’ to one half of my face for me to see the difference. She then finished the rest of my face. It looked fab! My skin definitely looked flawless and it didn’t feel very caked on and like my skin could breath.

They had a 10% off event so I decided to purchase the ‘Total Moisture Facial Cream’ and the ‘Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Brightening Makeup’ as I was really impressed by them.

As my skin can flare up with dermatitis with various products, I was a hit reluctant in buying the moisturiser. It felt find at the time of application, but I’ll see how it performs over the next few weeks.

What pushed me to buy it was the 28 day money back grantee that Benefit offer. If the product doesn’t suit you you can return it for a full refund.

I love buying new makeup and trying different brands out. I’ll give them a go for the next couple of week and report back!

In the future I will definitely be more confident in approaching the beauty counters. The expert advice is definitely worth it. I think that once you find out how exactly to use the products the right way for your face, you can get the most out of them!

What are some of your fave Benefit products? Let me know!

Thanks for reading! X

CHANEL CC Cream Review

About a month ago my best friend recomended the Chanel CC Cream to me. I gave it a go for a night out and I loved it! I found it gave a medium coverage, matched my skin tone so well, and it also really did colour correct!

The product is a thick, creamy consistency, and is quite heavily fragranced like most Chanel products. So if your skin is sensitive to scented products then this may be one to avoid. When purchasing the product the Chanel Sales Rep colour matched me, she recomended the shade 20 beige. I found this shade to be perfect for my skin tone, even when I am ‘au natural’, or tanned! It also has an SPF of 50.

I have redness prone skin that tends to be quite sensitive and dry, and I found that foundations didn’t cover up the redness and with the odd one that did it the redness began to show through after a few hours of wear. The CC cream works wonders for this. After using the cream for a few days, I began to notice that it dried my skin out a bit, which is probably the only negative that I found with it.

The price is another factor you may need to take into consideration. I bought the standard 30ml tube for £44. I’ll admit this will last you a long time as a little definitely goes a long way, however I would consider this a luxury purchase.

Over all I feel that the Chanel CC Cream is a brilliant product that colour correct, conceals and can be used as a brilliant base to makeup or for a fresh faced natural look.
