Every month my boyfriend gets the Loot Crate , which a monthly subscription box aimed towards gamers. Last month I got a little bit jealous so I decided I was going to order something similar for myself!
After a lot of deliberation, I finally decided to invest in a beauty box… and the one I chose was the Birch Box. I had heard really good reviews about them, and from looking at past boxes I was pretty impressed.
When this little beauty popped through my letter box I was so excited to open it up and see what goodies where inside!
Birch Box teamed up with Rifle Paper Co. and created gorgeous designs for the boxes. I received the Herb Garden box.
Benefit Bad Gal Lash
I had used this before, and it is a very good mascara. Personally I prefer the They’re Real Mascara from Benefit, as I find the brush is a lot more defining, however the Bad Gal Lash Mascara brush is very thick and good for adding va va voom to your lashes! It’s a small sample size which is great for travelling.
Kueshi Foot Care Cream
Apart from the odd pedicure, foot care is usually the last thing on my list. So it’s nice to have a little reminder from Birch Box to treat my feet once in a while. I used this when I had a pamper night the other week. It deeply moisturised my skin and got rid of those pesky dry patches on your heels.
Parlol By Jeff Chastain Detangling Leave-In Conditioner
I’ve used this several times as my hair can be quite dry. It definitely gives it a little boost and make it feel touch-ably soft and shiny.
So Susan Lip Dome
I found this very similar to the Clinique Chubby Stick. It is very moisturising and adds a subtle pop of colour!
NUXE Huile Prodigieuse
This is a multi purpose oil for hair and skin. I used it on my hands to try it out as soon as I opened the box, it has a lovely light scent and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling on your skin.Unfortunately it didn’t agree with my sensitive skin 😦 so it’s going to have to stay on my hair!
Over all I was quite impressed with the April Birch Box. Maybe it was the fact it was my first box, and the novelty may ware off, but I really hope it doesn’t.
Let’s see what Birch Box has for us in store in May! X
While I was in Prague I managed to squeeze in a trip to the beauty haven that is Sephora 🙌
As most of you know we don’t have Sephora in the UK, so whenever I’m in Canada or on a city break somewhere in Europe I need to scout one out.
I mainly go to pick up the makeup brands that you can’t buy directly in the UK (without the huge shipping fees) as well as Sephora’s own makeup and skincare line. I’m a huge lover of their fibre masks and blushes! ✨
For those of you who have been to Prague, I went to the Sephora store in the Palladium Shopping Centre in the City Centre. I was pretty lucky as they were having a 3 for 2 deal event at the time! (Who doesn’t want to save money?)
Here is what I picked up:
Sephora Collection Rouge Balm SPF 20
Sephora Brilliant Jumbo Cheeks + Lips in Vintage Pink
Sephora Smoothing and brightening powder in Colourless
Sephora Collection Colourful 5 Eyeshadow Palette in Nude to Neutral
Sephora Colourful Face Powders – Blush in 02 So Shy
Hello everyone! Welcome to the post where I write about all the best bits I’ve been loving the past month. It definitely has been a quick month (well.. it is February!) it honestly seems like yesterday I was sitting writing out my January favourites!
Let me know what you’ve been loving this month! X
Garnier Toner – I’ve been doing a lot of research on skin care recently, and one thing that became apparent to me was that you need to have a good skin care routine. I’ve already been cleansing and moisturising my skin, but one step I’ve never really thought about was using a toner. Apparently toners have a huge range of benefits such as tightening pores. I picked this one up from Super Drug (it was on offer!) and I didn’t want to spend loads on something I’d be trying out. So far I’m really enjoying using this morning and night and I’ve noticed a difference in the texture of my skin.
Nivea Dry Skin Face Wipes – I know face wipes aren’t the No. 1 skin care product to use, but after a long day all I want is a quick fix to remove my makeup and make my face feel a bit fresher. I feel like it’s actually worth investing a wee bit more in a good face wipe, and these Nivea ones don’t disappoint. I feel that my face looks brighter and heathier after using these.
Boots Soltan Instant Tan – I still use the old and trusty St Moriz Fake Tan but I’ve been loving trying something different, yet still very affordable. This tan smells lovely, and my skin feels very soft afterwards and I find that it’s very build able to get the colour you want.
Soap and Glory ‘Endless Glove’ Moisture Mask & Hand Cream – I don’t know about you guys but I looove Soap & Glory products. I was a huge fan of the ‘Hand Food’ cream yet this month I’ve been using the ‘Endless Glove’ a lot more. It has a very fresh scent to it, so it isn’t as sweet like their other products, which is quite nice for a hand cream. I find it sinks into the skin very quickly and works wonders on my nails as well! 😀 I’m yet to use it as a mask overnight, so I will let you guys know how it works!
Witch Stick – An old favourite that I rediscovered. I used this all the time in my teen years, and I swore by it! Luckily I my skin isn’t very spot prone, but when the odd one pops up on my face I dap it on and it disappears within a day or two. I picked this one up as they donate proceeds to Marie Curie Cancer Care- a cause close to my heart.
Once Upon a Time – I’ve mentioned this in my previous post ‘ Netflix Top 5 ‘ and it is definitely one of my favourite series’. This month I had a serious binge watching marathon of the show and unfortunately that’s me finished the last season until the next one is released.
Today I was in Edinburgh City Centre to do a bit of shopping after finishing work a bit earlier than usual. I nipped in to Boots on Princes Street to get a few essentials (you know, face wipes, razors and all that jazz). A lovely lady from the Benefit Stand came up to me and asked if I’d like to try out some of their products. I’m not usually one to go up to beauty counters and ask the sales assistants about products, but I’ve used a variety of Benefit products before and I love them! So I thought it would be a great experience to try some new products and get some hints and tips from the professionals!
First of all they cleansed my face with the ‘Remove It- Makeup Remover’ to clean any makeup on my face for a blank canvas 😉 She then applied the ‘Total Moisture Facial Cream’ this felt amazing on my skin! The product has a light scent to it, and it feels very cooling when applied to the skin.
She then applied the new ‘POREfessional: matte rescue gel’ as a primer, followed by the ‘Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Brightening Makeup’in the shade ‘Believe in me- Ivory’ to one half of my face for me to see the difference. She then finished the rest of my face. It looked fab! My skin definitely looked flawless and it didn’t feel very caked on and like my skin could breath.
They had a 10% off event so I decided to purchase the ‘Total Moisture Facial Cream’ and the ‘Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Brightening Makeup’ as I was really impressed by them.
As my skin can flare up with dermatitis with various products, I was a hit reluctant in buying the moisturiser. It felt find at the time of application, but I’ll see how it performs over the next few weeks.
What pushed me to buy it was the 28 day money back grantee that Benefit offer. If the product doesn’t suit you you can return it for a full refund.
I love buying new makeup and trying different brands out. I’ll give them a go for the next couple of week and report back!
In the future I will definitely be more confident in approaching the beauty counters. The expert advice is definitely worth it. I think that once you find out how exactly to use the products the right way for your face, you can get the most out of them!
What are some of your fave Benefit products? Let me know!
I don’t know about you, but Barry M is one of my favourite cosmetic brands for nail polishes. They’re very affordable, good quality, and constantly come out with gorgeous new colours and types of polishes.
Although I cant have my nails painted all the time because of work, I do love to have a pop of colour on my nails on the weekends and holidays!
Here are the Barry M Nail Paints that I have at the moment… Let me know what your favourite Barry M Nail Paint colours are!
The last few days I’ve been bogged down with the worst cold ever! I thought I felt a bit better today so I met up with one of my best friends from school for some lunch in town. Before heading home I decided to pop into Lush to pick up a few things. I thought I’d treat myself to a pamper night to help make myself feel a bit better! 🙂
Avobath(Bath Bomb)- This is my all time favourite product from Lush. It’s smells so fresh and uplifting (so it is a must if you like to have baths in the morning!). The Avocado and Olive Oil really helps to rehydrate my skin.
Butterball(Bath Bomb)- This bath bomb contains chunks of Cocoa Butter, which melt into the bath and makes your skin feel almost like velvet.
Percup (Massage Bar) – I’ve tried other Lush massage bars and I think they’re brilliant! They make my skin so smooth and soft. I decided to give this one a go. The bar is topped with whole coffee beans, which makes it look a bit different.
Milky Bath(Bubble Bar)- Who doesn’t love a bubble bath?! I believe that this is a new bubble bar. I thought it just looked so cute! It’s shaped like a milk bottle! It smells very sweet, yet subtle. It contains Orange Oil, Skimmed Milk , Patchouli Oil, and Cocoa Butter.
Cup O’Coffee(Face and Body Mask)- I LOVE the smell of coffee. This mask contains: Vanilla, Roasted Cocoa Extract, Vetivert Oil, and Coffee Infusion. I have been loving the FRANK Coffee Scrub lately, but I thought I’d try this out as it seemed like it would be a bit more moisturising as a mask.
Thanks for reading! Let me know what are some of your fave Lush products! 😀
About a month ago my best friend recomended the Chanel CC Cream to me. I gave it a go for a night out and I loved it! I found it gave a medium coverage, matched my skin tone so well, and it also really did colour correct!
The product is a thick, creamy consistency, and is quite heavily fragranced like most Chanel products. So if your skin is sensitive to scented products then this may be one to avoid. When purchasing the product the Chanel Sales Rep colour matched me, she recomended the shade 20 beige. I found this shade to be perfect for my skin tone, even when I am ‘au natural’, or tanned! It also has an SPF of 50.
I have redness prone skin that tends to be quite sensitive and dry, and I found that foundations didn’t cover up the redness and with the odd one that did it the redness began to show through after a few hours of wear. The CC cream works wonders for this. After using the cream for a few days, I began to notice that it dried my skin out a bit, which is probably the only negative that I found with it.
The price is another factor you may need to take into consideration. I bought the standard 30ml tube for £44. I’ll admit this will last you a long time as a little definitely goes a long way, however I would consider this a luxury purchase.
Over all I feel that the Chanel CC Cream is a brilliant product that colour correct, conceals and can be used as a brilliant base to makeup or for a fresh faced natural look.
Before CC Cream – I have such bad redness on forhead cheeks and chin!
Hello everyone! I hope you’ve all had a brilliant start to 2016, and if not, you can always count January as a false start and try again in February! 😉 How time flies! 1 month down and only 11 months to go in 2016! January has been a pretty busy month for me. I was lucky enough to have been offered a new job, and I accepted it of course! I started a couple of weeks ago now, and I absolutely love it. This was one of my new years resolutions (the only one I have managed to fulfil so far…). This month there has been a few new beauty purchases that I have been in to, and also some old products that have made a re-appearance back into my life. I’ve also thrown in some other non-beauty related products for good measure!
Here are a few beauty products and other bits and bobs I have been loving in the last 31 days…
Aussie Take The Heat Leave-In Cream Cream – After a recent trip to the hair dressers, I learned that my usual heat defence spray wasn’t really stepping up to the plate. Apparently if you’re using a spray, pretty much half of the product doesn’t even make it onto your hair. My hair dresser suggested a heat defence cream or serum, as this will coat the hair and ensure it’s protected. I love Aussie products, not only is the smell just amazing, but I find that they actually do work for my hair. After I wash and condition my hair, I use my tangle teezer to gently work out any knots, I then towel dry my hair until it’s still slightly damp. I then take one pump of the product and rub it between my palms and evenly distribute it throughout my hair.
My beauty routine had to be put on hold for a while this month as I suffer from eczema flare ups on my body and face. I still haven’t managed to pin point the exact cause of this, but I tend to put it down to Winter weather and stress. Normally it doesn’t bother me too much if it’s on my body, however my face is a different story. I always feel so self conscious and it’s the first thing people look at when they meet you, and so I like to try and get under control of my eczema ASAP!
I decided to go back to basics with my skin care and I bought Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, I had this recommended to me by my dermatologist a few years ago but never gave it a go, and I’m so so happy that I did. It is so gentle and fragrance free, it takes off all makeup and it also feel like it’s properly cleaning your skin without being harsh on it.
I also began using Epaderm cream as a moisturiser on my face and body again. I was prescribed this by my GP and I should learn to never use a different moisturiser as this stuff works for me!
As a treat from time to time I have been loving using ‘The Comforter Shower Cream’ from LUSH. The comforter was my favourite bubble bar, and when I saw they brought out a shower cream I had to try it. I was lucky enough to get a gift set with this in it for Christmas. The smell is super sweet almost like bubble gum and I can’t get enough of it.
There are three new products I have been using almost every day this month, they have become almost a staple in my makeup routine and although they might seem pretty basic they work really well for me.
Barry M Mani Mask in ‘Birthday Suit’ – You might recognise this being mentioned in one of my other posts ‘Mini Boots Makeup Haul’. I can’t have my nails done for work but I also like to have a nude pink coat on to make my nails looks a bit brighter. This covers any imperfections in my nails and gives in a french pink look to it.
Barry M Mani Mask
My hand ft. mani mask!
Rimmel Brow This Way in ‘Dark Brown’ – I have naturally dark thick brows and so apart from grooming them I tend not to do much. However I thought I’d try out a brow gel and see if I liked it. This is a good colour match and blends in really well. I like it as I holds my brows in place all day!
Ted Baker Lipstick – My Boyfriend got me a gorgeous Ted Baker makeup gift set for Christmas, and I love all the products it came with. My favourite product was the Nude Pink lipstick. I’m unsure on the product name unfortunately. It is super creamy and glides onto the lips. The colour lasts and keeps my lips moisturised. I think it’s the perfect everyday nude shade!
Michael Kors Sexy Amber – This was another Christmas present I absolutely loved this month! I wanted to get this perfume for all of last year but never got the chance to purchase it. I did a fair amount of travelling in 2015 and every time I was in duty free I sprayed this, so it always reminds me of my holidays when I wear it! It has a deep, sweet scent with fragrance notes of Sandalwood, Mandarin, White Florals.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And other concerns) By Mindy Kaling – I bought this book at Toronto Pearson Airport on my way back to Scotland. I read a good chunk of it on the plane, however when I got back home I didn’t have the time to finish it off. This month I made the effort to read more before bed and I finally finished it!! I love Mindy Kaling, and her personality definitely comes across in this book. It’s funny, witty and makes you feel like you’ve known her all her life!
Food & Drink:
Davids Tea ‘Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait’ – My sister brought a box of these tea bags over from Canada when she visited for Christmas. They are so yummy! I wish you could buy Davids Tea over here in the UK.. I’m going to need to ask her to send me some over!
Thank you for reading and I hope you all have a brilliant February! I’d love to hear what you all think, so please feel free to leave in the comments what you’ve been loving this January!
Since I didn’t have my blog back in July- when I bought these fabulous products in Italy- I didn’t do a post about it, so I guess there’s no better time than now!
I spent a few euros in Sephora, and I didn’t regret it, as I’m still using the products now:
NARS Laguna Bronzer: I wanted this bronzer for so long! There’s been so much hype surrounding it and I just gave in to it. It’s brilliant, it doesn’t give you that ‘muddy’ look and it’s slightly matt so it’s great to use all year round.
Sephora Pearl Fibre Mask: I’ve heard good things about these fibre masks, and I really wanted to give it a go. I chose the pearl one as it promised to brighten & perfect. You might look a bit mad when you’ve got it on (ask Dino!) but it makes your skin feel lovely and fresh. (I did pick up a few more when I was in Sephora in Toronto. They’re brilliant for a pamper evening and to give your skin a bit of a pick me up!).
Invisi Bobble: This was a last minute impulse buy at the checkout, as they have a stand with sample size products and beauty accessories. I thought they would be good as at work I need to have my hair up, and I hate taking it down to find that awful kink where your bobble was. These bobbles are super gentle on your hair, they are yes- invisible! because of their shape they blend into your hair so its great when you put your hair into a bun, and they don’t leave kinks!
Sephora Blush in ‘Rose Pop’: This was another impulse buy! I’m pretty sure it was only around €2 in the discount section. It’s highly pigmented so you only need a touch to brighten up your cheeks.
Sephora Double Duty Exfoliator and Mask: This was a mini size of the product, so I thought I’d give it a go. I have very sensitive skin and I have learned to accept that some products don’t agree with me. This product was OK. It exfoliated however I felt that it did dry out my skin a little bit.
Sephora Colourful Pouch in Pink: I needed a new small makeup bag to stick in my handbag, and this seemed ideal.
I know that Kiko have a few outlets in the UK (including one at Glasgow Fort) but I tend not to visit there very often, but I really should! The products are such good quality for a not so big price tag:
Kiko Luscious Cream lipstick in ‘Peach Rose’: This lipstick is also highly pigmented, and super creamy. It didn’t dry out my lips, and it gave a nice satin finish. I definitely would like to pick up some other shades to try out.
Kiko GLOW² Blush & Highlighter: This is a small solid blush and highlighter stick split into two halves. It is very creamy and blends really well either over foundation or just onto skin. I used it quite a lot when I was still in Rome as I wanted a glowy look for Summer. However you can tell I favour the highlighter side a bit more!
Kiko Essential Bronzer in ‘Sienna Melange’: I picked this up at the checkout as it was on special offer at the time. I really like the packaging, it comes in a wooden base with a magnetic wooden lid that has a mirror fitted on the inside. You get quite a lot of product, and it smells like a mix of chocolate & vanilla. I quite like using this for an all over bronzer as it gives an even tone and feels very silky.
