Charlotte Tilbury First Impressions

I absolutely adore Charlotte Tilbury! I’ve binge watched her You Tube videos, learning lots of tips and tricks over the years.

I have always really been a drugstore makeup gal, with occasionally splurging on high end beauty products or being gifted them for birthdays and Christmas. However only recently have I decided to purchase some Charlotte Tilbury products to get a taster. I decided to go for the and the Charlotte Tilbury Unisex Healthy Glow, and the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick  in ‘Penelope Pink’- I adore the name of this lipstick, and it is the perfect every day nude colour! I purchased these products from Feel Unique.

img_2441

The Unisex Healthy Glow is a tinted moisturiser that gives a natural glow to the skin. I love a tinted moisturiser, and my go to one is definitely NIVEA’s Daily Essentials Tinted Moisturising Day Cream (at £3.99, you can’t really go wrong). So I was excited to see how Charlotte Tilbury’s £35 tinted moisturiser matched up. When first applied, the product is white and quickly blends into a pigmented cream to give a lovely natural looking tan that blended effortlessly into my skin. I found that I definitely had a subtle glow that I loved, and I’m sure I will love this product even more come the dull Winter months.

img_2442img_2443

My skin is notoriously dry, and I found this tinted moisturiser really did help with this. It didn’t cling to any dry patches on my cheeks at all, like some foundations and other moisturisers that I’ve tried in the past. The product claims to have “natural moisturising actives that contain a combination of moisture regulating ingredients that mimic bouncy lipids in your skin.” I love wearing this product on it’s own. It is so light weight and doesn’t make me feel ‘cakey’. I loved this so much when I was in Italy, I could just pop some on and blend to give my skin a super natural glow that felt effortless.

The only down side to this product is that it doesn’t contain any SPF, so you will need to add in an extra step for sun protection into your skin care and beauty routine.

img_2448img_2449

Next up is the lipstick. I have to say it is one of the softest and creamiest lipsticks I’ve used so far. I always have the issue of making sure my lips are ridiculously moisturised with layers of Carmex otherwise the colour will just flake off! However I didn’t have this issue when using the K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick. This lipstick also has good lasting power, I regularly top up my lipstick throughout the day/night and this lasted several hours longer than other ones I have tried.

I would say that the colour is more of a nude off-pink rather than a bright pink, but I prefer this, as I am comfortable to wear this on a day to day basis.

I am also in love with the rose gold case! It is so sleek and is definitely my style.

After reading the products description, the product claims to be enriched with their secret ingredient, the Lipstick Tree, which is an anti-oxidant that naturally protects lips from UV damage and external pollution, which is a big thumbs up from me!

img_2445img_2446img_2444img_2447

Overall, I was quite impressed with Charlotte Tilbury’s products. I’m very keen to try more and discover some of my new makeup favourites. I get the impression that she truly cares about her products and thinks about each ingredient that she puts into them to make them unique and work well on every skin type.

Have you tried any Charlotte Tilbury products? What did you think, and did you have any favourites?

L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara Review

I’m all for trying out new products, especially when it comes to mascara. I’m always on the hunt for a new product to top my favourite Benefit They’re Real- preferably one that’s cheaper too!

L’Oréal’s marketing campaign for this mascara was brilliant. Every time I popped onto my Facebook or Insta, they’re was an advert for the product. I loved how they used bloggers like Just Jodes as well.

The mascara claims to give mega volume, curl and hold all day. They have a selection of colours to choose from as well; black, black waterproof, indigo, lilac, and teal. I’ll be honest, I’m not one for bright makeup so I went for black (boring I know!).

DSCN0665

Packaging:

I love the packaging for this mascara, I think it is very simple yet eye catching! The pastel pink and mint green instantly caught my eye when I was browsing the makeup aisles in Boots.

DSCN0667

Brush:

A mascara wand is the most important thing for me. I normally like thinner wands that make it easier to catch and coat each lash. I also prefer silicone type wands over the classic brush style. The Miss Baby Roll wand is made of silicone, however has a larger round barrell shape, I think this makes it easier to achieve more volume for your lashes. I found this made the application of the mascara trickier, as I kept on getting specks of the product on my eyelid (maybe I might just need more practice!)

DSCN0669

DSCN0672

Product & Application:

I liked the consistency of the product, I felt that it didn’t clump, even when I applied to layers- hurray!

I found that the mascara definitely gave more volume to my lashes which I loved, and I found the results very similar to that when using the Benefit Roller Lash, however the roller lash was a little bit more defined.

Wear:

Like the majority of mascara that I wear I always find it was fade and run down to my lower lash line throughout the day. This happened with the Baby Roll as well. But I did expect this.

Removal:

Since I didn’t get the waterproof version, I found the mascara very easy to remove. I usually use a makeup wipe to initially remove the product, and then wash my face with cleanser and a wash cloth.

Benefit Cosmetics Favourites

When I was younger, Benefit was the first ‘high end’ makeup brand that I tried. It all started with the Boi-Ing Concealer, a pretty heavy duty product that banishes those dark circles. From that I was hooked, and slowly I branched out and fell in love with their products. Today I’ll be chatting about my favourite Benefit makeup products that are tried and tested and always make an appearance in my makeup routine.

  1. Dandelion
  2. Roller Lash
  3. Watt’s Up!
  4. Lemon Aid
  5. Goof Proof Brow Pencil

dscn0568

Dandelion was one of the first blushers I fell in love with. Although Benefit describes this product as a brightening face powder that can be used on cheeks as a soft blush or swept all over the face to brighten your complexion, I tend to only use this as a highlighting blusher. It is a ballerina pink colour that adds a dusting of colour. I find it really complements my skin tone as well.

dscn0580

dscn0581

Although Benefit’s They’re Real Lengthening Mascara is in my top all time favourite mascaras, it came a close second to Benefit’s Roller Lash! Roller Lash is a lengthening and curling mascara in one. I think the idea behind this mascara was to banish the need for lash curler prior to application of the mascara- which means time saving which I’m all about! I love mascaras with delicate rubber applicators, and I find this brush is perfect for grabbing, separating and lifting my lashes. It is also water resistant, and I find I don’t get that smudging around my lower lash line that I often get with other mascaras. Over all Roller Lash works very well for my lashes, it’s very easy to apply and gives an amazing curl.

dscn0562

dscn0563

The Watt’s Up! Cream highlighter is a gorgeous champagne soft focus highlighter that I find complements and adds dimension to my face. It’s very easy to apply and blend out. Benefit says it has a ‘cream to powder finish’. I use this highlighter over top of my foundation and blend with my Beauty Blender, or on a bare face when I just want a little glow.

dscn0587

I’m going to be honest with you all, I rarely use an eyelid primer! Yes I know it adds longevity to your eye shadow and allows the colour to be more pigmented, but truth is I either don’t have time or I forget. I have however tried various eyelid primers and Benefit’s Lemon Aid is hands down my favourite. This eyelid primer colour corrects, which I really like as my eyelids tend to be quite red. The warm yellow tones in this primer really does cancel out any redness and evens out discolouration. I’ll pop some of the primer on with my ring finger and blend out before applying eyeshadow, I like how gives a good base so that not only the eye shadow is applied evenly, but it allows the eye look to last longer. However, sometimes I’ll just leave the primer on it’s own, I find it brightens up my eye area and makes me look more awake!

Last, but not least, is Benefit’s Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil. Apart from tinted brow mascaras, this is the first proper brow pencil I have used. My brows are quite thick and dark so I never felt the need to fill them in. However, I thought I would give it a go for extending the tail of my brow or evening them out. My Sister recomended this product to me and I’m so glad she did. The angled, no sharpen tip glides on almost effortlessly so it really is ‘goof proof’. I love the built in spoolie so handy and perfect for blending in the product too.

What are your favourite Benefit products? I love recommendations.

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation Review

I love Bourjois’ products, I think that their range is brilliant for natural classic makeup. I’m a big fan of their Healthy Mix Serum Foundation, and when I saw their Happy Light Foundation I thought I would give it a try. I love natural, dewy makeup and I’m all over a foundation that offers this.

dscn0548

Bourjois claims that the Happy Light foundation “gives a luminous and flawless complexion in any light. Its translucent pigments correct without masking giving your complexion a flawless radiance. Its supple texture glides smoothly onto the skin for a flawless complexion with no caking.”

On first appearance I loved everything about the packaging. The cute smile logo is perfect, and I love the colours on the bottle. I love foundations that come with a built in pump (= practical and less mess!) and it’s compact size is perfect for any makeup bag.

I found the range of shades from Bourjois to be spot on, especially for pale skin like myself! As with all Bourjois products it smells lovely.

On application I found the product very runny on application, however it blended out so well! I tried blending with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, as well as the Beauty Blender, and got a great result.

I found that the foundation gave a very light coverage, and added more of a tint of colour and a nice glow to my complexion. To combat this I added another layer, and this helped to cover any blemishes and give better coverage. The foundation is build able without ending up looking cakey!

Top 5 ‘No Makeup’ Bases

From BB to CC creams, to tinted moisturisers. I got a little bit confused when it came to something lighter to wear as a makeup base. I love foundation, especially when I want a bit of extra coverage, however, I find it can be a bit heavy at times. So when I want a lighter ‘no makeup’ base I like to opt for one of these little beauties…

DSCN0554.jpg

These 5 creams all work differently, but they all make an appearance at some point in my makeup routine when I’m looking for a natural base.

First up is my old favourite, NIVEA Daily Essentials Tinted Moisturising Day Cream. I’ve used this for years and I still reach for this product. It gives my skin a bit of a boost with moisture, and adds a hint of colour which I feel matches really well. It also has SPF 15 which is an added bonus.

The Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Cream Gel has SPF 30 which is amazing for a tinted moisturiser. I read lots of brilliant reviews and had to try it. The one thing I regret is that I think I bought the product in a shade too dark, but come the Summer time it will match well with a bit of a tan. So I would probably recommend asking the staff at Bare Minerals to match you. The coverage is decent with this product, but like any tinted moisturisers it’s more to give you a tint and a bit of glow.

The Chanel CC Cream was a wonder find for me. A friend recomended it to me last year and I didn’t look back. However, it is highly perfumed so I’d be a bit wary if you have sensitive skin. It gives amazing coverage for a CC cream and conceals redness very well. The one drawback I found is that it dries out my skin slightly on my cheeks, but I still really love the cream. It also has SPF 50! The highest one out of these creams.

Next up are two drug store buys; Rimmel London BB Cream Radiance & L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream.

The Rimmel BB Cream is a good light coverage base, it has SPF 20 as well, and I find it gives a nice glow to my complexion. I have the shade ‘light’.

I wanted to try L’Oreal’s BB Cream for a long time. I was amazed by how the white cream magically turned into the correct shade for your skin! A little goes a long way with this cream, and it gives good coverage.

dscn0553

dscn0555

These products all differ in texture and coverage, and I find that some work better for my skin when it’s drier, for example in the Winter months, or when it’s doing better and I’m not having a flare up with my eczema. But I love being able to just pop a little bit of the product on to complete a quick natural look!

ELF Hydrating Face Primer Review

A good primer is the best foundation to your makeup. I’ve been trying out so many different types and brands of primers recently, so I thought I would give you my thoughts on the ELF Hydrating Face Primer.

This primer is infused with grape and vitamins A, C and E which helps to nourish the skin. It is clear and gives a smooth base for your makeup.

The reason I chose this one in particular as I thought it would be good for my extremely dry skin (especially during Winter!). It is also fragrance free which is ideal for sensitive skin. It is a silicone based primer, which makes it ideal for hydrating skin, however oily skins should maybe try to avoid this as even I found it sat quite heavily on my face.

This primer glided on nice and smoothly, giving my skin a smooth texture, which helped my foundation and makeup blend nicely and resist clinging to any pesky dry patches.

NYX Professional Makeup Highlight and Contour Pro Palette Review

I love contouring and highlighting! I have so many different products that all work their magic. But I also love having everything together, and this palette by NYX is brilliant, as it has variety of matte and shimmer contouring shades and gorgeous highlighters.

I was browsing the NYX stand and this kit jumped out at me. I had never invested in a contouring palette before, despite lusting after the Zoeva and ABH ones! So I decided to spend £18 (Boots) for the NYX palette, which does seem similar to dearer ones, to see if it would work for me.

img_1420

The palette comes with eight customisable highlight and contour shades. The shades in this palette are all removable, so you can swap them out for another favourite, or replace them once you’ve hit pan.

As you can tell I’ve already picked out my favourites, but all of the shades work well.

img_1418

The shimmering highlighter on the top left is fast becoming my go to colour. It is very pigmented and blends out flawlessly. In fact, all of the shades in the kit do!

img_1421

I love the banana powder for setting my under eyes, I feel it brightens and gives that awake look. Pretty much all of the darker shades are good for contouring, but I also use the lighter ones for bronzing my paler complexion.

All in all this palette has quickly made its way into my daily makeup routine, as well as my going out one!

What do you think of the NYX Professional Makeup Highlight and Contour Pro Palette?

USA Haul – Beauty Bits

Ah, America, home of outlet malls and amazing brands you can only dream of getting in the UK! I couldn’t resist splurging on a few things while I was holiday in Orlando, and I couldn’t resist even more sharing them all with you.

First stop was Sephora (surprise, surprise!) and I actually took two trips there. I stocked up on a few essentials, like their skin care line, their own brand makeup brushes and beauty tools, and a few high end goodies.

Sephora have a huge selection of makeup brushes, I was in awe when trying to pick the ones I wanted. Eventually I ended up with the ‘Sephora Pro Blending Brush Large 27’ and the ‘Sephora Crease Shadow Brush 73’. I also picked up a Beauty Blender. Although I’m a devotee to my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, I’ve heard good things about the Beauty Blender so I thought I’d give it a try seeing as it was a little bit cheaper in the US.

DSCN0279

I recently hit pan on my NARS Laguna Bronzer, and when I went to re-stock, so I decided to buy the NARS Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm and Laguna for the best of both. Sephora has the worst thing for when your queuing… the sample sized section! I threw the Benefit Roller Lash and the Origins Clear Improvements Active Charcoal Mask into my basket at the last moment. They are both really great products that I’d love to buy again in full size.

DSCN0258

DSCN0247

I wanted to invest in a new eyeshadow palette. I picked up the Tarte 2 In Bloom.. Which actually smells delicious! This is the first (of many) Tarte products I’ve tried and I’m falling in love with the brand. The neutral palette has a mix of matte and shimmer shades, and is part of their Amazonian Clay Range. My favourite colours have to be Smarty Pants, Rocker, and Funny Girl.

DSCN0223

DSCN0259

This next product I totally didn’t just buy it for it’s name… The BECCA ‘Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured’ in ‘Moonstone’. It is a super compact cream highlighter that blend so smoothly into your skin. It is quite subtle, but you can layer it up for a more intense effect. It’s quickly become part of my everyday makeup.

What are your Sephora favs? And what should I definitely pick up next time I’m across the pond?

NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray Review

Probably like most makeup addicts in the UK, I’ve been loving how easy it is to pick up NYX products now (thank you Boots!) and the product I have been using pretty much every day is their Dewy Finish Setting Spray.

IMG_1385

The reason I went for the dewy finish over their matte finish setting spray is because I have very dry skin, and I hoped that this would help, or at least not cling to dry patches like powder does.

Now I’ll be honest, this is the first setting spray I have ever used, mainly due to the fact that I found other setting sprays quite pricey, and I never really thought I would benefit from it. It comes in a small bottle but it lasts for a while, and it doesn’t have a scent, which is good for me. Once I apply my foundation, concealer, bronzer & blusher, and blend, I evenly spray 2-3 pumps over my face. I wait about 15-20 seconds for it to become ‘tacky’- a little bit like when your waiting for eye lash glue to slightly dry before applying the lashes- and then I take my makeup sponge/beauty blender and gently pat my face. I’ve been doing this for a while and I find it really does set the makeup and leave a nice smooth finish. Before using this spray I always found my makeup to be patchy or even worn off by the end of the day, but now I find it looks pretty good after a long day at work!

Overall I’ve been super impressed with this product, and for £7 (from Boots) you can’t really go far wrong. Give it a go and let me know what you think! What other NYX product have you been loving?

June Birchbox Review

Hello everyone! Long time, no post!

I’ve really been meaning to chat all about one of my most recent deliveries, my June Birchbox for some time now, so here we go…

I have to quickly say that this is probably going to be my last Birchbox post for the foreseeable future. I’ve been getting them for only about three months, and I always say to myself “maybe it will be better next month!”, but unfortunately I’ve never really been over the moon with what I have received in the boxes, and I decided to cancel my subscription.

I tried updated my profile on the website to get more tailored boxes, but I was never thrilled with the samples they supplied. I always see boxes from bloggers in North America and in my opinion, they seem to get better items, for better value of money per month.

I’m not saying I will never get Birchbox again, I may give it another chance in the future, but at the moment I’m going to do my research and try out other subscription box services. Any recommendations? Leave them in the comments please! ❤

So I’ll move on to what I received in my box this month. First off I’d like to start by saying I really do like the designs on the boxes- they are very cute-  this month was a Summer theme called “Paradise Found” and I really loved the palm trees on my box.

As usual I received 5 samples…

Percey & Reed Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray

This is handy for travelling. From using this product it didn’t really do anything different to what any other hairspray I have used will do. The package design is lovely, however I wouldn’t go on to purchase this product in full size.

img_1495

Whish CC Body Cream

This was an interesting find. I’ve heard all about CC creams for the face, but for the body?Totally different story! This cream smells like Summer in a bottle, with hints of coconut! It adds a shimmery bronze glow to your skin, blends away imperfections and makes it feel super soft. I would consider using this again!

img_1496

Benefit Air Control BB Cream Eyelid Primer

I really wish this came in a bigger size! It primes and colour corrects the skin on the eyelids for smooth application of your favourite eyeshadow. It also has SPF 20 which is brilliant.

Pure and Light Organic Essential Face Cream

I’ll be honest, I didn’t try out this product. My skin is ridiculously sensitive that I will only ever use a moisturising cream that I know won’t cause my eczema to flare up. I donated this product to a friend as I’m sure she will benefit from it more than me!

img_1497

Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigments in Cake Pop.

Now this is probably one of the only Birchbox samples that I absolutely love. I have been using this lip & cheek stain every day in my makeup routine. It is very creamy and heavily pigmented, that adds a pretty pink pop of colour. I use it mainly as a blusher, and I place a tiny dab onto each cheek and blend it out with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. A perk of this product is that it smells like just like sweets!

What do you think of Birchbox? And if there are any other subscription boxes that you love, please let me know in the comments below!

Thanks
